son would die like those animals. He walked for three days while thinking of his beloved Son’s sacrifice.

When Abraham walked for three days, Isaac was already dead in his mind. He was thinking how he could perform his Son’s sacrifice to God without his servants’ suspecting it.

While thinking of that, he was miserable and depressed, but remembered God’s promise to him. “God clearly told me that my descendents are going to be uncountable, like the stars in the sky and the dust in the land. If my son should die, will there be a descendent? God’s promise will not be a lie. He would not let this son die.” He kept walking with these thoughts in mind.

When they approached Moriah, the hill appeared as God showed in his vision. So Abraham prepared everything for sacrifice, and ordered his servants, “Stay here and wait for us with the donkey. My son and I will go and worship God. We will be back to you.” Then Isaac asked Abraham, “Father, where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” When Abraham heard the question from his son, he felt deep sorrow. The lamb was Isaac himself. Abraham patiently answered,

“God already prepared the lamb on the mountain, so just bring the wood and follow me.”

They entered a bush where their servants could not see them. After walking for three days as an old man, he struggled to build the altar. His tears and sweat dripped onto every stone he lifted.

Then, he prepared to kill his son. He thought at that moment that he would follow any command from God, reminding himself that God had taken care of him and allowed him to become a white haired old man. He tried to manage his mind, imagining that Isaac had not been born.

When he was ready in his mind, he took Isaac’s clothes off and laid him on the altar. Then Isaac recognized that he would be the sacrifice. Isaac closed his eyes and said, “Father, do as you will.” At the moment Abraham took the knife to slay his son, the command instantly came from heaven. The angel of the Lord called out to him, “Hold your knife. Do not lay a hand on the boy. Now God knows how much you fear him and how much you love him.” Then Abraham looked up and there was a ram caught by its horns. He took the ram and sacrificed it.
